Editor's note
Blue fluorite is rare and often fades with time and yet it is very popular with collectors because its icy appearance is irresistible. The blue in fluorite is often artificially enhanced by irradiating it - beware of such fakes! This specimen comes from one of the world's most reputable dealers and is not altered. It is a great example of blue fluorite from the famous La Barre mine in France and a good addition to a fluorite collection.

Description
Fluorite from the La Barre mine, Saint-Jacques-d'Ambur, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France is known the world over for its amazing colours and zonation. This small miniature specimen displays the classic pale blue colour with a slight hint of zoning in the outer couple of millimetres. The crystal, which measures 3 cm on edge, is missing its lower edge and the rear is absent, tapering slightly from one end to the other. The main front face is lovely and glassy, internally translucent, with a super baby blue colour.
