Rarely do we see large, prismatic gem Elbaite tourmaline crystals from Burma on the market. This one is a gorgeous, transparent to translucent, outwardly cranberry-magenta colored crystal with well developed prism faces that are lightly striated and capped by a glassy, pyramidal termination. The base of the crystal reveals its color complexity with a dominant greenish yellow core surrounded by a thin, diffuse yellow-green zone that transitions into the lovely cranberry colored exterior, that is much more intense at the top third of the crystal. Flakes of white Muscovite adorn the prism faces of the crystal on the backside. It is very reminiscent of Malkhan Elbaite Tourmalines and could easily be mistaken for a Russian specimen were it not for the provenance from the Larson Collection (he bought it in Burma, as well). This majestic crystal has a mass of 89.9 grams. It is imposing, strongly colored, and presents impactfully on a shelf.
