Amazonite with Smoky Quartz from Teller County, Colorado are regarded as classic mineral specimens to nearly any collector. The largest crystal on this specimen is actually a Manebach twin; twinned crystals are almost always much larger than their untwinned counterparts, as is the case here. This piece was mined in the 1970’s by the late Ray Ziegler. S. E. Hayes, George Fisher, Clarence Coil and his son David, and Ziegler filed The Goethite 1 Claim in 1972 and the 2 Claim in 1973, in the Crystal Peak area in Park County very near the border with Teller County. This piece is illustrated, and it appeared on page 41 of the Mineral Collections in the American Northeast, the July-August 2016 supplement to the Mineralogical Record.
