Elbaite on Quartz with Lepidolite
Wow and double wow! What a fabulous specimen this is! A broad, skyscraper-like tower of bluish-green Elbaite Tourmaline emerges vertically from a horizontal matrix of sub-parallel snow-white Cleavelandite crystals, the bladed variety of Albite Feldspar. Just for good measure the Cleavelandite is peppered with occasional lavender Lepidolite mica crystals and small Elbaite prisms, each of around 5 mm long. The Elbaite tower sits on another part crystal of Elbaite which emerges out from the Albite, where its rough, cleaved end reveals an inner core of rich raspberry-red Elbaite of the watermelon variety. Both this and the main Elbaite crystals are translucent deep spring leaf-green tending to a metallic-green. The 4.5 cm tall prism terminates in a pinacoid of paler green although end-on, the pinacoid appears bluish-green. A cojoined parallel Elbaite prism, 2.5 cm tall, and of the same colour, terminates in a delightful cornflower-teal blue. Enough said, it is a gorgeous combination of Elbaite Tourmaline and Albite from Barra de Salinas and one which is sure to delight.
