Smoky, delicate pale grey to milky and colourless, sometimes gemmy, Dolomite crystals form an impressive cluster from near the Spanish village of Eugui, in Esteríbar, Navarre. Although not recorded on the label, it is most likely from the Azcárate quarry (aka Azkarate quarry) which mines Magnesite. This miniature is composed of four intergrown rhombic Dolomite crystals, the largest measuring 3.5 cm across its longest edge and 4.8 cm on the diagonal. Quite often, these classic Spanish specimens don't display Dolomite's characteristic curved edges in the rhombohedral form, but although not pronounced, this specimen certainly does. The prisms feature internal rhombic phantoms which become more apparent when back lit. A lovely large miniature of beautifully crystallised Eugui Dolomite.
