A delicately coloured green and pink Tourmaline from the Nuristan region of Afghanistan. This ex-matrix crystal, mounted on a clear acrylic base, has two small side crystals in parallel growth and gently curved prism faces with deep vertical striations. The crystal is semi-transparent, and its colour is dominated by the pale watery-pink inner core. The outer skin is tinted pale apple green, although this colour only manifests at the crystal edges where the wall thickness is sufficiently thick. This applies to the flat pinacoid termination also. When viewed directly from above, only the outside rim of the termination appears apple-green, with the centre remaining pale pink. A charming and choice Tourmaline.
