Dioptase
The copper silicate Dioptase is certainly one of the most iconic species from the Tsumeb mine in Namibia. This beautiful rich small cabinet specimen is a fabulous example of this particular habit whereby the crystals average 2 to 4 mm and form a continuous uninterrupted druse over a porous iron-rich matrix. When displayed, the Dioptase completely hides all of the matrix from any direction as it form s an irregular shaped dome of deep emerald green crystals. However, I have to say for the first time ever, I love this specimen displayed upside-down, showing the central chocolate-brown matrix framed by a uniform halo of bright green Dioptase crystals, it looks quite stunning!
