Tourmaline (Vanadian Dravite)
An exceptional gemmy green Vanadian Dravite tourmaline from the famous 2016 find, with a neon green colour when backlit, with a darker, brownish-green lowermost section probably reflecting a purer Dravite composition. This miniature specimen consists of two prismatic crystals, the largest measuring 3.4 cm in length, with excellent terminations and some whitish 'Calcite' in association. This material was previously documented as Chrome Dravite but more recent analysis has shown that vanadium is the green colour activator. Such strikingly coloured Dravite was unheard of until this famous find, and this discovery was itself very limited with no new material seen since. This piece, despite being small, represents the finest intensity of colour known for Vanadian Dravite and the uppermost 1.5 cm of the main crystal is magnificently gemmy. A real rarity of the tourmaline world.
