Description
Berbes is of course famous for all kinds of styles and crystal shapes of fluorite, but most of them are generally cubic or some normal cubic modifications. However, rarely, from a few pockets we see dramatic crystal habits of the rare tetrahexahedral form of fluorite, and this is particularly well developed on this specimen, with crystals to 1.4 cm. They are immediately obvious in person. For lack of a better way to describe them, it looks like somebody pushed on the sides of a cube until part of its insides extruded out the top and middle, but in a shape both geometric and slightly curved at the same time. In person, it is very obvious that this is not a normal fluorite habit! Old material from the 1970s era of Dr. Pohl's massive collection. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 53985
