The Milpillas copper mine in Mexico produced a dizzying quantity and variety of azurites for nearly 10 years in its heyday, as miners worked through a thick oxide zone laced with mineral pockets, but now produces very little in the way of specimens - and fewer azurites. Each pocket and style was unique in a place and time of the mine, and of the mineral world. This particular style is a very memorable find from circa 2010 or so, where a think rind of malachite replacement overlays a deep blue azurite crystallization, and so the eye sees both colors, intermixed and apart at the same time. It is a completely unique appearance compared to anything from Tsumeb, or from other Milpillas pockets. This particular specimen is a very robust size combined with an aesthetic display of colors, both saturated, so that it is not too dark nor too light as they contrast against one another the malachite coating is thin, and chatoyant. It is beautiful 360 degrees all around.
