Uvite Tourmaline
Really good Uvite Tourmalines are difficult to come by, and this one from a rare locality in Burma is simply stunning for the stark geometry! This single, floater, incredibly lustrous Uvite has a deep coffee color and is translucent to some extent on all of its display faces, especially at the main display termination. The three major faces that comprise this termination have fiery internal reflections of orange and subtle red very reminiscent of fire agate. The big, well developed termination at the top is super lustrous, displaying subtle striations that constitute faint geometric patterns while the bottom termination is different by exhibiting a faint etch pattern while still having impressive luster. The prism faces on this piece are vertically striated and short, resulting in the sturdy appearance of the crystal. This Uvite has a mass of 133 grams. Bill told me that he purchased this in Burma in the early 2000s and it is the best of species he was aware of from the country. Mark Mauthner photo.
