Cavansite is so common that sometimes one just tunes it out of the peripheral vision at shows in the big booths of Indian dealers. However, the truth is that GREAT cavansites are few and far between, the overall quantity has really slowed in the last few years, and certain pieces stand out above the rest. Most thumbnail cavansites are just "small rocks" or loose balls. This aesthetic matrix thumbnail specimen has both crystal habits, the spherical aggregates AND the elongated crystals, arranged elegantly on matrix and on the same specimen. It is, to me, a striking thumbnail specimen that displays real character that sets it above most small "representative" cavansites. I bought this and some other pieces in this update from the collection of Ernie Schlicter back around 2007, before it was sold. This is a large thumbnail/toenail sized specimen that displays fully in a TN box.
