An unusual specimen from this famous locality, a floater grouping of thick translucent light pinkish to light bluish green smithsonite crystals without matrix. This is in terrific condition all around. Neat miniature specimen with no points of attachment. This specimen was on public display at the 2026 Tucson Gem and Mineral show.Choix in Sinaloa, Mexico, is a historic mining area that was worked for silver, lead, and zinc beginning in the 19th century. The deposits occur in hydrothermal veins cutting volcanic and sedimentary rocks, and mining continued intermittently into the 20th century. In the oxidized zones of these deposits, smithsonite formed as a secondary zinc mineral, often occurring as botryoidal crusts and smooth masses. Smithsonite from the Choix area is known for its attractive colors, including blue, green, and pink tones, and is valued by collectors for its appearance and classic locality.
