This is a sharp and highly unusual talc pseudomorph after chondrodite from the Tilley Foster Iron Mine in New York. This miniature is composed of a single 2 cm, yellowish, somewhat lustrous upright, freestanding, sharp crystal of chondrodite that has been fully replaced by talc. The crystal form of the chondrodite has been preserved perfectly. The material around the pseudomorph is mostly talc, however, there are a few incomplete pseudomorphs within the talc matrix ranging in size from 2 to 8 mm. An excellent example from this locality of unusual display quality and condition. The sharpness, given that talc is such a soft mineral, is remarkable. Excellent provenance from Bob Whitmore (major New England collector) to us; and then to Wouter Van Tichelen and back to us. Wouter was, for decades, the largest pseudomorph collector in Europe, so far as we knew.
