Leadhillite with Cerussite
Large, sharp translucent crystals of Leadhillite from the Chalk Mountain Mine in Nevada; and a true rarity for this species from America or for that matter from anywhere except Tsumeb. A beautiful specimen, this is a shocking competitive, displayable thumbnail example of a very rare species; and from a surprising locality. This generously sized thumbnail consists of at least two dozen, platy, translucent, scintillating, silvery tan crystals of leadhillite from 0.5 to 1.4 cm in size. They are in excellent condition, however, the largest crystal does have a slight ding on one edge, otherwise excellent for the species. Leadhillite is a relatively rare lead carbonate-sulfate hydroxide. Self-collected April 2, 1989 by Martin Jensen, as well as XRD by him.
