Adamite
Beautiful lustrous yellow green crystal groupings of adamite to 2.5 cm in size on matrix. This is in very good condition. Crystallized on both sides of the matrix. Adamite from the Ojuela Mine in Mapimi, Durango, Mexico occurs in the oxidized zone of a complex lead zinc deposit that has been worked since the 17th century for silver, lead, and zinc. The mine became famous among mineral collectors for producing bright green to yellow prismatic crystals of adamite, a zinc arsenate hydroxide mineral with the formula Zn2AsO4OH, often lining cavities in altered limestone. These crystals are commonly associated with other secondary minerals such as legrandite, smithsonite, and hemimorphite formed by the weathering of primary sulfides. Although large scale mining declined in the 20th century, the Ojuela Mine remains one of the worlds classic localities for colorful adamite specimens.
