The Sylvester Mine near Urbeis in the Val de Ville, Bas Rhin, Alsace, France was a small silver lead copper mine worked from about 1893 to 1912. It produced polymetallic ores but was never highly profitable, and the shafts and workings were closed and abandoned after about twenty years. Today the site is marked by old mine dumps and the remains of the deep shaft, and specimens from the Sylvester Mine are sought by collectors for their variety and history. This current specimen dates to the time when the mine was in production and comes with an antique label dating this to the very early 20th century. Bright metallic crystals of tetrahedrite measuring to 1.0 cm incisor on a dolomite crystal matrix. Some damage present as seen, still quite good for this historical specimen.
