This is a gorgeous, bright, 634-gram display quality slice of the Dronino meteorite from an old collection we purchased that had a small group of systematic meteorites within. The slice is complete and has all of the outer surface rind preserved, which is unusual at this size. We had to look this one up on Google to find more about it; and find that it is similar to Chinga pieces in some regards. Chinga is also an ataxite - an ungrouped "class-less" meteorite with no patterning structures. It is a high purity alloy with generally no patterning lines within, which are characteristic of so many stony iron meteorites. Dronino meteorites seem to be brigther and take a higher polish than most others. Per Google: The Dronino meteorite is an ungrouped iron meteorite, classified as an ataxite due to its high nickel content, which is about 9.81% of the total mass. Its composition includes approximately 10% by volume of sulfide inclusions, mainly kamacite and minor amounts of taenite. Other accessory minerals include chromite and an iron-phosphate.
