Fluorite (Spinel Twinned) with Tourmaline
A single large, but unique pocket of twinned fluorites was found in 2024, and soon dispersed across the mineral world with sources in both Russian and China who were on the ground in Namibia when it came out. This twin, I liked because of the sharp balance with a cluster of tourmalines at the base, partially included and running in and through the fluorite itself! The contrasts here are so striking, and unusual from anywhere. I saw a number of pieces and refrained from buying the large heavy crystals as I did not love the color (or lack of it). They are mostly a very pale lavender hue, as is this one. But in this case, the pale to transparent color highlights the tourmalines inclusions and association, and really makes the piece more contrasting than if the fluorite was colorful but opaque. This is complete all around, superbly balanced for display, and much better in person. In person, the eye sees more transparency than the camera, which gets stuck with subtle surface texture that makes the photo look less gemmy and clear than the crystal does, in person. Minor yellow and green color you see are associations of fluorite and muscovite, respectively.
