This specimen is one of the "more red" examples of Red Cloud wulfenite, most of which are clearly orange-red to orange, though we often delude ourselves and finagle the adjectives. This is as close to real red as they get in this size, and is an exceptional small cabinet piece from the surprising finds of Wayne Thompson in 1997. Most specimens from this find were red to red-brown, a fair number with mud inclusions that make them less red and less lustrous. This, however, has the qualities you want in color and luster combined with an aesthetic balance. The crystal is undamaged and complete all around (edges measure 2.3 and 2 cm as shown). No repairs (unlike most larger crystals from the find) and no damage. The project was almost a bust and actually only "hit" when they were closing, literally on the last possible day past their already used-up expense account as the team was packing to give up for the season and never come back. (For more on this story, he has a book published in 2026 that describes the project in detail). From the Kevin Brown collection.
