DUFTITE on CALCITE
Duftite and Calcite is one of the most famous combinations of minerals from the remarkable Tsumeb mine in Namibia with Duftite known to coat Calcite crystals, but also to form inclusions within Calcite. Ordinarily a very rare species, the lead copper arsenate hydroxide Duftite is surprisingly well-developed at Tsumeb. This small cabinet-sized display specimen illustrates the classic Tsumeb association, with a bed of rhombic Calcite crystals containing classic camouflage-green Duftite inclusions and surface coatings. It is also apparent that where the Duftite has formed upon Calcite during its crystal growth it has impinged the further growth of Calcite, resulting in unusually distorted rhombic crystals. An instantly recognizable Tsumeb piece. Ex Hettrich Collection.
