It is often said that Red Beryl is one of the rarest of all gemstones and that is certainly true, being known from just a handful of key sites in Utah, of which the Wah Wah Mountains in Beaver County has produced the best crystals. Good crystallized specimens are rare, and great specimens exceptionally so, meaning that owning one is an honour. This miniature-sized matrix specimen features two main crystals along with a cluster of four small prismatic crystals. The largest crystal, at 1.4 cm in length, is significant in size for this variety of Beryl but it does have a fracture running through it and despite displaying a superb deep cherry-red colour in parts, it also has white inclusions. The second crystal, at 7 mm in length, presents an excellent flat hexagonal termination and has an intense red gemmy tip. All of the crystals are flat-lying on the typical rhyolite matrix and stand out very well.
