Fluorite with Quartz$2,250.00

This is a nicely composed and well-balanced vertical specimen of fluorite with quartz, a choice small cabinet piece from the lesser known Piaotang Mine in Jiangxi Province of China which is often confused with specimens from the Yaogangxian. YGX is more famous, larger by far, and is in Hunan province, where many of the miners in Jiangxi go to sell their specimens, which explains the common mixups. This is from the 90s or early 2000s, and was acquired by Kurt from early Chinese exports. The look of these "fuzzy phantom" crystals is unique and obvious if you know to look for it, to differentiate them from YGX fluorite phantoms. A glassy, commanding, 6 cm (measured from the back), milky quartz crystal dominates the rear of this attractive piece and is complemented by several, super colorful transparent, zoned fluorite crystals that cascade beautifully in a sharp geometric fall down the front of the piece. The quartz crystal displays nice horizontal striations across the prism faces and the fluorites sharply formed cubes that complement in geometry. The fluorite crystals are largely a pastel blue with a prominent, interior grape-purple zone that is highlighted on its edges only, not on the interior faces: resulting in an enhanced and complex look to the phantoms! This can be seen looking into any of these wonderfully transparent crystals from the front or side! The bottom of the piece and one side are highlighted by groups of small (4 to 5 mm) muscovite crystals! An artfully composed piece from a small and important location for unique fluorites.
