A classic combination of minerals with purple fluorite and baryte in a combination specimen from old finds (1970s-80s) at Berbes, Spain. Very glassy, transparent, purple fluorite cubes cascade down the front of this exceptional piece over open rosettes of nearly white baryte. All of the fluorites are gemmy and transparent with the largest crystals beautifully set at the top of the piece and you can see right through them to the baryte underneath! The sharply formed cubic fluorites are from 0.7 to 3 cm across with excellent edge phantoms apparent on ones at the top of the piece and less so progressing down the front. The curving clusters of bladed, nearly white baryte provides great contrast for the fluorite. The back of the piece is almost as spectacular and is dominated by large sheaves blazing white baryte to 7 cm (although some is damaged) with some more gorgeous fluorite crystals at the top! From the well-known collection of Raul Sanabria, specialist for decades in the Minerals of Berbes, and coauthor of the Mineralogical Record book on the subject. The book heavily illustrates his collection, in that he collected at least one of every pocket over decades of mining here. This piece is not in the book (although another from the same pocket is), but represents this classic combo find very well.
