A gorgeous zoned, small cabinet sized specimen from the famous Minerva #1 Mine in southern Illinois that has arguably produced some of the most beautiful fluorite specimens in the world. A single, stunning, zoned crystal with a smaller sidecar companion that shows a bright, glowing yellow, translucent interior and a 5 mm thick medium blue-purple, completely transparent outer zone! There is even a small, barely discernible purple corner "floating" within the blue zone for added aesthetics and interest. The main fluorite crystal measures 5.3 cm on its longest edge and displays prominently. The sidecar crystal is nearly the same length across and grows into the larger crystal and is complete on the front face and to some extent on the sides, but contacted and partially dissolved for the rest of the crystal. There is a bright white, low-profile fan of 3 to 8 mm baryte crystals at the intersection of the two fluorites that provides great contrast and composition. Yellow is the rarest of colors from here, in good saturation, compared to blues and purples. The exterior of both crystals is marked by geometric growth hillocks on the crystal faces that become slightly more prominent at the center of the broad face on the larger crystals and found everywhere on the smaller crystal! Classic early Minerva style (1980s) on the so called "mushroom style" yellow massive fluorite which would have been below this crystal! The rim of the fluorite fluoresces light purple, the interior a bright yellow and the baryte fluoresces a vivid orange-yellow.
