Fluorite on Calcite
Two stunningly sharp, transparent, bottle-green fluorite octahedrons are aesthetically set on on scalenohedral calcite crystals from some small one time find in an undisclosed location that was said to be near the huge Daye Copper Mine in China (but we do not know a mine location and it remains quiet to this day). The two, razor-sharp octahedrons are totally transparent and measure 4.5 and 2.1 cm on edge, respectively. The crystals are glassy at the corners and display a somewhat glossy-satin luster on the faces that only slightly obscures the transparency at the surface, otherwise you can see right through the crystals to the dark purple core at the interior! The two extraordinary crystals are set on lovely, earlier formed, translucent white to pale grayish calcite scalenohedrons from 1 to 3.3 cm in length (they must be manganoan as they fluoresce a neon red color). There are even some 4 to 8 mm, sparkling, water-clear quartz crystals mixed in with the calcite. All of these features results in a very strikingly composed combination specimen! These came out while Rob was in China in 2023; and we got, we believe, 3 of the 4 specimens produced of any quality. This piece has the second largest crystals and was particularly balanced after trimming. Note: A bit of damage on the back side of the main crystal, not the display face, has been restored because it was incomplete due to contact - invisibly restored with epoxy matching the texture and refractive index of the crystal so that it is invisible except under UV light. It is not repaired.
