Fluorite with Quartz
This is a very handsome cluster of glassy, clear quartz crystals accented by a pair of pink, octahedral fluorite crystals from Göscheneralp, Switzerland. The quartz is perfectly transparent at its exterior and gradually becomes more turbid and translucent at the interior. Most of the stout quartz crystals are in parallel growth and range in size from 1.5 to 7.5 cm in length, however, a few at the periphery of the piece are in random orientation and one doubly terminated crystal on the side measures 4 cm. The two fluorite octahedrons accent the piece beautifully and are pale pink, gemmy, well-formed and isolated. They measure 2.1 and 1.8 cm on edge. The two fluorite octahedrons fluoresce violet under long-wave UV. Cliff Krueger acquired this specimen from Peter Bancroft in April 1969; and Peter should know - he was already a legendary and sophisticated collector at the time. He reported it was collected in Simplon Tunnel (note: the Simplon Tunnel is not connected to Göscheneralp) as written by Cliff on the back of his label (and look at the price from 69!). Clifford Krueger was a good friend to Jack Halpern and Jack had first choice of many fine specimens from his collection when it was sold - so it was been with only these 3 owners since the 1960s.
