Manaoshan means Agate Mountain in Chinese, although it's filled with fluorite and calcite and riddled with mining tunnels, old and new, that go back maybe 100 years! We have been underground there multiple times and Rob went down in this green fluorite tunnel even as it was collected over the following two years (found in 2013 and pulled out slowly and carefully), and trimmed this out of a plate recovered at that time. Each zone of this particular tunnel, about 1 mile into an ancient handworked artisanal tunnel and over a scary deep trench, featured green fluorite of a different style and color. The best combination pieces, to us, are those with dolomite found in 2013, where you see a contrast of color and texture between dolomite, fluorite, and quartz. This particular piece is dominated by a single, colorful, mint green fluorite crystal measures 5.3 cm across, with subtle geometrical and color details. The fluorite is perfectly situated on a plate of white drusy quartz with a cluster of pink, saddle-shaped dolomite crystals. The colorless quartz druse takes the color of milky quartz vein material beneath it and the 3 to 6 mm, pink dolomite crystals provide optimum color contrast as highlights of this beautiful specimen, which was a difficult trim out of a larger original section of the mine wall. Very few pieces of this quality, as a combination, were recovered at the time and most of them were larger plates for those who want larger items. This quality in the size class was uncommon. Bonus: The crystal fluoresces a dark purple under long-wave UV.
