DATOLITE
This fine crystallized American Datolite comes from one of its most famous occurrences - Lane & Son Traprock quarries at Westfield, Massachusetts, USA. These quarries opened in 1891 and superb crystallized Datolite specimens were soon found and made their way into major museums across the USA as well as around the world. This large miniature specimen from these quarries is almost pure crystallized Datolite forming large (to over 2.5 cm across) very glassy colourless to pale cream crystals with excellent definition of crystal faces. Two main crystals dominate the specimen, but some of the smaller crystals are even gemmier with wonderful form. This really fine, well-balanced Datolite comes from David Hardman's superb North American suite and was probably acquired by him during the 1960s or 1970s.
