MANGANITE
Manganite from Ilfeld in Harz, northern Thuringia, Germany is one of most instantly recognizable mineral species and is something most collectors of world classics aspire to own. Part of this stems from the unusual factor of one locality producing a mineral species in such quality that it eclipses all others, but added to this is the heritage side - Ilfeld having been known since the early 19th century. This fabulous display quality small cabinet-sized Manganite comes from the amazing collection of brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) and features not only exceedingly glossy crystals, but ones of significant size also. The main freestanding upright prismatic crystal reaches over 2.5 cm in length, but the longest crystal on this specimen reaches an impressive 3 cm long. These larger crystals rise up and across a base of smaller intergrown Manganite crystals with some contrasting white Baryte also present. All of the main crystals present excellent terminations. This specimen has extremely good aesthetic appeal which is enhanced by its custom-made acryllic display stand.
