Crocoite
A solid, robust crystal of crocoite that stands tall and shows off a 3-dimensional termination, very different than the usual "spiky" style. Unlike most, this is not so fragile that you cannot hold it. It is an actual textbook elongated crystal of crocoite. One in 1000 specimens - or less - from this mine produced thick, 3-dimensional crystals like this. They look very much like what we see in old museums, from the late 1800s and early 1900s finds; and a robust and thick crystal quality that we had not seen since. This fine thumbnail specimen is a huge impactful color volume of red, to see on exhibit. The hot color and metallic luster just pull the eye in. Lastly, we think it is a floater, with hoppered terminations in each end. Purchased directly from the miner, Adelaide Mining Company, at the Tucson City Center Hotel, January 23, 2018, with label.
