A surprising specimen of vanadinite from this small mine in Arizona. We all know this location for large plates of tiny vanadinite crystals, but RARELY it also produced larger crystals, in small clusters. Usually these were kept in a small circle of Arizona and southwest mineral collectors. This happens to make for a perfectly balanced thumbnail specimen - and a surprisingly fine example of a vanadinite from anywhere other than Morocco. It is hard to believe that it is from the USA but it is, which is why it ended up in the Schauss collection as a superlative location thumbnail that also lived up to aesthetic standards.
