Bornite
A shockingly sharp and lustrous bornite crystal from this historic old metallic mine, once a source of industrial ore for the Soviet Union and later left in defunct. This location has produced some of the finest bornite, betekhtinite, djurleite, and other related species we have seen, but all is old production now, generally from the 1980s-90s. This piece has a unique sharpness and symmetry that make it top percentile of all such crystals from this locale, and a competitive-level thumbnail at top tier as a result: I have seen hundreds of Kazakh bornites....but this one, and only this one, ever stood out to me for the ridiculous sharpness and balance of the lustrous crystal faces with no lack of geometry or luster. It is an exceptional TN example of the species and has been, for 2 decades and more before I bought the Schauss collection. Previous label notes a 1999 acquisition by a German collector named Engelbrecht from a Russian in Moscow. Just exceptional for this sulfide! Laszlo Kupi photo.
