Silver
The silver Islet mine was located on a small island in the middle of Lake Superior. It was extremely rich and was worked only from 1870 to 1884. Weather conditions, flooding, the location, all made for mining to be very difficult. Pumping of Lake water out of the mine was a constant problem. Regardless, a lot of ore was recovered. Good specimens from this locality are quite rare on the market today. This current example shows rich wire native silver across the top of matrix. Quartz is present upon the matrix as well. The specimen was formerly in the collection of Irwin Kennedy and comes with his label.
