Quartz var. Eisenkiesel
The Wölsendorf Fluorite Mining District in Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany is one of the few places in the world to have produced really fine red, Hematite-included Quartz crystals, and the Heißer Stein mine from where this great specimen comes, is one of the best known. Like a Hedgehog, this small cabinet-sized specimen comprises a dome-like form, where deep blood-red terminated pyramidal Quartz crystals (the variety known as Eisenkiesel) protrude outwards. There is little obvious damage to the crystal terminations and it is a good size for display.
