Malachite partially replaced by Azurite
Azurite with malachite ps. azurite is one of Tsumeb's, and the mineral world's, classic combinations. These chatoyant starbursts of malachite replacement within an intact azurite crystal are, visually, one of the most distinctive of all mineral combinations and so rare to find for sale. This dates to the 1960s or before, and is an old style not seen since. It is unique, in this quality, to Tsumeb. This single azurite crystal is prismatic, with super-high luster and classic, deep-blue color. Two faces are contacted, but the rest all exhibit some degree of malachite pseudomorphing. One pair of faces, in particular, has one of the most beautiful radial patterns of secondary malachite I have ever seen outside of a very few famous Tsumeb pieces - all similar, just of larger sizes or prices. The bands of alternating dark and light green, iridescent in classical style, are complete all around. Being wavy, this so looks like a shimmery, green carnation in full bloom. This malachite has such great aesthetics that it makes the piece another level of play....as a combination, a true mineral classic. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 91257
