Zincolivenite
Quite literally, the best specimens of zincolivenite have come from Tsumeb, and the deep-green color here is but one indication of the quality that was found in just a few pockets in the 1980s (at the time, labeled as olivenite and said to be the World's Best Olivenite!). Most famous among these are the renowned crystals with the curved, fan-like habit, and these orthorhombic crystals, up to 1.2 cm, exhibit just a bit of that curvature. There are several crystals on this thumbnail, and the geometry is such that this is likely an exposed pocket, which explains their fine development. Few zincolivenites from Tsumeb attain this level of color saturation, and it is a rich, deep, forest-green regardless of the luster. Interestingly, the curved faces have a uniformly higher luster than the other faces of the zincolivenites. Providing both mineral interest and a good contrast in color and form are crusts of a distinct yellow mineral, beaverite, a typical association for this material. With such fine aesthetics, this uncommon cluster makes a quality thumbnail that displays exceedingly well. It is a large thumbnail or a small miniature. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 41410
