BARYTE Stalactitic Section
Derbyshire has a few famous localities for stalactitic Baryte: 'Oakstone' from Arbor Low ; Dirtlow Rake; Bonsall Moor quarry. This sweet miniature is from Dirtlow Rake, near Castleton, and comes from John A Jones' famous collection of Derbyshire minerals. With one cut and polished surface, what is nice about it is the fact that it is two stalactites alongside each other, like eyes, even with the detail of the tiny central tube for the 'pupil'. Paired stalactites are much rarer, and with a soft pink colour it looks lovely. Individually each stalactite is 2.5 cm in diameter. A Derbyshire classic.
