Polished slice or slab of 1950s-1960s Apache Flame Agate, measuring about 6.25 inches (15.85 cm) tall. Acquired from my friend Walter who helped me acquire and build a very nice collection of Apache Agates. Walter told me the pieces I acquired from him were once part of the Rice Collection and were the pieces the cutters (Maurice and Walter) got for sawing and polishing pieces from that collection. All of my Apache Agates have been nicknamed, this one I call the "Apache Flaming Heart." The correct locality for these agates is: El Apache Agate locality/Mine, Rancho la Viñata, Galeana Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico. This is the locality that produced what is probably the most famous agate in the world, the Apache "Hooded Owl" in the Brad Cross collection.
