Wulfenite
Touissit in the Touissit-Bou Beker District of L'oriental Region, Morocco has long been known as a source of fine yellow Wulfenite crystals, with many specimens having reached the market during the 1990s but unlike the Vanadinite from elsewhere in Morocco, the supply of Wulfenite has completely dried up. This rather majestic small cabinet piece presents superb aesthetics, as well as hosting an extremely large (3.5 cm across at its widest point) crystal. The crystals here are a rich orange to orange-yellow colour and display an unusual allignment whereby they have all grown upright at approximately 90 degrees from the surface of the matrix and parallel to each other. Furthermore, their habit is one of flattened bipyramids, rather than tabular, with the extreme development of the usual 'bevelled' edge extending to a pyramidal point. The colour contrast between resinous orange Wulfenite and pinkish host rock is also very attractive. There are a couple of slight chips to the edges of the Wulfenite crystals, but this is without doubt one of the finest Wulfenite specimens to have come out of Morocco. This superb display specimen comes with a custom-made Sunnywood stand.
