Jouravskite on Xonotlite
Bright canary-yellow crystals of jouravskite grace interconnected spheres of white xonotlite on this striking thumbnail. The Kalahari Manganese Field has produced well-crystallized examples of many rare and unusual species for decades and this colorful example is no exception! The bright yellow jouravskite blades occurs as rounded clusters from 1.5 to 8 mm, which is large for the species, and beautiful as they are isolated on the white, finely crystalline xonotlite spheres. Jouravskite is a very rare hydrated calcium-manganese sulfate-carbonate that is found at only a handful of localities worldwide and the N'Chwaning Mines of South Africa have produced the world's best! This particular pocket from 2017 is certainly the best single discovery, and I bought nearly all of it at the time. Xonotlite is an uncommon calcium silicate and the Kalahari mines have also produced some of the best specimens. A superb example for these two species, and a display specimen with bright lemon yellow color as a bonus! A welcome addition of color burst to any thumbnail or rare species suite, and now simply unobtainable on market.
