Stolzite
Stolzite is a very beautiful and rare mineral, and the best came out of Broken Hill in the late 1800s and early 1900s, now classics that we only seldom see. This is a visually striking specimen of fiery orange-red stolzite crystals to 4 mm on a stark black background from Broken Hill, Australia. Stolzite is a lead tungstate and is a member of the scheelite group, sometimes mistaken for wulfenite as well. There are at least three dozen colorful, isolated, orange-red, almost wulfenite-looking crystals on the front ranging between 0.5 and 4 mm in size that are lustrous mostly gemmy. They sparkle with any incident light! The bottom of the piece is also loaded with stolzite crystals, but with a more muted color. There is no damage to crystals on the front, however, there is some contacting to those on the backside. This piece exemplifies the most classic and treasured habit of Broken Hill stolzite and the crystals are relatively robust. It is showy, presentable, and rich in quality crystals - seldom seen.
