Malachite
An unusual malachite locality piece! Several, vibrant green sprays of primary malachite decorate this very attractive and unusual piece from the Roughton Gill Mine in England. The sprays display a distinct fibrous texture lovely sheen along their length with the play of light along them making them look beautifully chatoyant! Two of the component crystal groups are 2.5 and 1.7 cm, respectively, and there is a third that fans out at the top that measures 2 cm. All three are a rich bright green with a distinct fibrous texture along their lengths and contrast nicely with the brown goethite-bearing matrix. Top quality for this historic English locality! From the historic collection of H.C. Van Tassel, University of Delaware; and a historic European piece, most likely from the mid-1800s based on known finds here.
