A fantastic, 4 cm on edge, black-brown crystal of hausmannite accented with colorful andradite garnet from the best place on the planet for hausmannite crystals. The Kalahari Manganese Field has produced fabulous pieces of this species and although a dark colored mineral, it just seems to have that special panache like the flashy triangular growth patterns on this piece and then the splash of red crystalline andradites for wonderful contrast. It has excellent sub-metallic luster and is growing in its classic pseudo-octahedral form even though it's tetragonal...sort of crystal mimicking! The andradite garnets are a rich red-orange in streaks and small clusters to 1 mm in size and there is some lighter, almost pinkish colored matrix associated with them that provides additional contrast. This is a dramatic, 3-D and aesthetic specimen! Comes with a custom engraved acrylic base.
