Babingtonite with Quartz
A significant rarity from the vast deposits of the Indian zeolite minerals, this is a rare species from any location and particularly rare and fine for India. The piece features a gorgeous, glossy black babingtonite crystal cluster sitting upright on a piece of matrix lined with quartz crystals and a green, chlorite group mineral from the Malad Quarry, Maharashtra, India. The jet-black babingtonite crystals are in a vertical, almost parallel growth cluster measuring 1.5 cm tall standing right off the contrasting white and green matrix. The glistening quartz crystals are colorless to white and are from 0.5 to 1 cm in length with mostly whitish centers right at their midsection. They are growing on pale green to medium green microcrystals of a chlorite group mineral that are all emplaced on a greenish basalt matrix. A very attractive and unusual Indian traprock quarry combination specimen. The photos are so difficult, because BOTH species are so bright and lustrous and reflective! So, we give you a video here. From the important collection of aesthetic rare species assembled over 50 years by well-known Mannheim collector Paul Stahl, a superb and beautiful piece.
