Roweite is a rare calcium-manganese borate with hydroxyl. This specimen features a gorgeous, rectangular-shaped, fanned aggregate of slightly translucent, rich tan-colored roweite on matrix. This crystal measures 2.7 x 2.3 x 1.9 cm and is accompanied by several smaller, sidecar crystals all set on a granular, off-white olshanskyite matrix. Roweite came out of a few small pockets in one area of the Shijiangshan Mine in 2017 and the specimens subsequently evaporated into the market. They are the absolute world's best of species by a factor of 1000 compared to previous known examples of this species. This elegant miniature piece is one of the best I have seen and also has rather large crystals in a nice matrix balance! These are true treasures that were almost missed in the haste of mining here for "fancier" minerals. Found once, and never again in this quality since. From the important Chinese suite of Steve Smale, known for his taste and his access in China (and a competitor AND a friend to me in doing so!). This piece is notable for its geometry, balance, and completeness 360 degrees around, whereas most are just flat plates.
