Azurite, Cerussite
The Broken Hill district of New South Wales, Australia is one of the world’s most prolific mineral localities. Discovered in the early 1880s, this large Pb, Zn, and Ag deposit has been one of Australia’s most important mining industries, producing over 300 million metric tons of ore. While famous for its world class specimens of rhodonite associated with galena, Broken Hill is also host to nearly 350 different mineral species, with 25 of which being type locality species. Broken Hill has produced some exceptional lustrous deep blue azurites, which have occasionally rivaled the likes of Tsumeb and Milpillas in terms of quality; however, sourcing a high quality azurite from Broken Hill is a much more difficult task than finding one from the aforementioned localities.
