Elmwood Fluorite and Sphalerite
The Elmwood mine in Tennessee might be the second most famous Midwestern mineral locality after the Illinois fluorite mines. Like Illinois, Elmwood’s fame rests primarily on exceptional fluorite crystals. This 8.8 cm specimen consists of a sharp cube of purple fluorite perched on a matrix of small dolomite crystals accented at the base by a pair of complex, highly lustrous black sphalerite crystals.
