Fluorite
This superb Blackdene mine Fluorite is the rare type where a light dusting of small well-formed golden Chalcopyrite enhances the beauty of the sharp cubes of pale purple Fluorite crystals. At small cabinet in size the largest Fluorite cube on this 'floater' reaches 3.3 cm on edge, with all of the crystals in stunning condition. The small Chalcopyrite crystals can be seen to populate very specific Fluorite crystal faces in what is sometimes termed geopetal deposition - where crystal growth is related to the direction of gravity within the vein cavity. Ex George Farr collection. George was a dentist in Hexam, Northumberland and reportedly took payment in the form of Fluorite specimens! This specimen was probably mined during the 1970s or 1980s and its previous owner may well have required some serious dental treatment.
