This lovely green Weardale Fluorite is not from the early 19th century workings at Middlehope Shield, or from the modern workings at Rogerley/Diana Maria mine, but is from the 1970s discoveries at Height's mine, near Westgate. Ex George Farr collection, it is full of wonderful detail. It comprises a thin bed of porous ironstone matrix coated on one side with tiny sparkling Quartz crystals, representing the lining of a cavity. Upon the Quartz are scattered pale emerald-green Fluorite crystals as large (to 2.9 cm on edge) individual cubes/cuboids, and smaller (to 1.3 cm) twinned crystals. The larger crystals display frosted, somewhat etched interiors and translucent corners with the smaller crystals mostly translucent throughout. None of the Fluorite crystals are totally glassy but are slightly matt in appearance, but all of the crystals are complete with little evidence of damage. The twinning displayed by the smaller Fluorite crystals is particularly nice. A small rounded dull, dark grey Galena crystal, sits between some of the Fluorite crystals on the surface of the Quartz.
